NOCC's Walk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer 5k Fun Run/Walk (formerly known as the Walk for the Whisper) The DFW-NOCC Walk is an annual 5K Walk/Fun Run designed to promote awareness of ovarian cancer. The Walk is centrally located in the mid-cities region of the metroplex and takes place during September which is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. The next race will be September, 26th, 2009. It is never too early to start thinking about forming a team! Many companies will sponsor teams if they are given sufficient notice about the event. Individual participation - by ovarian cancer survivors, their families, caregivers, friends, and all members of the community - is growing each year. In addition, there has been a growing number of teams as well. This page is designed to assist you in learning how to form a Team, and how to get information as a Team. As we get closer to the Walk, additional information will be added here, as well as on our Walk page so keep checking back here. Teams can be individual, or corporate teams. You can start asking people to be part of your Team now, or ask your employer to sponsor a team. Below you can download Captain instructions and registration forms. You can really make a difference forming a Team!! Remember, forming a team is a great way to spread awareness about ovarian cancer! Corporate Sponsored Teams Individual Teams Requesting Team Information Downloadable registration forms & Captain instructions will be put here soon CORPORATE SPONSORED TEAMS: How To Start A Corporate Sponsored Team: Speak with your manager or human resources department about the possibility of starting a team. Depending on the company, you may receive various levels of assistance. For example, some companies provide the cost for Team t-shirts (with the company name on them, of course). Some will also cover the registration fees for the company employees who participate. Ideally your company would also help in "advertising" about the Walk to the employees in the company so as to get as much participation as possible. Some companies even provide Team Captains to help coordinate the entire event! The key is asking the right people. Many thanks to these and all the companies that sponsor teams! You can refer anyone who is interested to this website, including the Walk page which has links to prior years' Walks photos as well as information. INDIVIDUAL TEAMS: How To Start An Individual Team: Of course, you don't have to have a company sponsor in order to form a team. In fact, the teams that have won for Largest Team so far in each of the prior 7 years have been individual teams! All you need is a bit of organization, lots of enthusiasm, and lots of friends!
