titled the NOCC and PureOlogy Walk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer and
we expect it to be another record breaking year! More information can be found on the Walk page
of the website. Mark your calendar!!!
RECENT EVENTS:
Living WELL With Ovarian Cancer - Educational Presentation: The DFW Chapter
of the NOCC and Gilda's Club of North Texas were proud to present an educational seminar with guest speakers who
presented topics on nutrition, ovarian cancer awareness projects, physician panel discussions on clinical trials, and a
special guest speaker, Fran DiGiacomo, author and ovarian cancer survivor. It was a wonderful event - fun and educational!
Fourth Annual Teal Tally Party: Our annual Teal Tally Party was held on March
29th with a record breaking turnout! This was a celebration of those women who have been
fighting with ovarian cancer for 5 years or more - with each honored with a special gift. With family, friends,
good food, and such inspirational women it was the usual joyous event!
Our Seventh Annual Walk For The Whisper took place on Saturday, September 29th, 2007.
This year's event was bigger and better than ever! Our thanks go out to all the volunteers, sponsors, family, friends, and particularly
to the survivors and attendees - everyone really, really, really made a difference!!!
In 2007 the State of Texas once again formally declared September as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
If you would like to see a copy of the declaration, click here. Many thanks
to Governor Rick Perry for this, and to all the volunteers who make the month of September so important to
ovarian cancer awareness!
Survivors Teaching Students: Thanks to a cooperative effort by Dianne Blankenstein with
OCNA, our chapter was able to put on the first of what we hope are many Survivor Teaching Students events. These are sessions where
a group of our ovarian cancer survivors teach medical students at UT Southwestern Medical School. The idea is to help give these
future physicians an idea of what the patient perspective is both in terms of initial symptoms and diagnosis, and treatment. By doing so
we hope to improve physician awareness in the community. The first of these took place August 1st, 2007. It was a wonderful event and a tremendous
opportunity to make a difference in the community. Many thanks to Dianne, Melissa, and Kay for doing this!
Third Annual Teal Tally Party: The April Meeting was a
very special one. This was our third annual Teal Tally Party where we
honor those who have met and surpassed the milestone 5+ year survivorship mark.Fun was had by all, and
we were proud to have a number of new volunteers join us for this event. And proud of having a 20 year survivor there - go Diane!
More information on it can be found on our Meetings Page.
Health Fairs have been taking place throughout the year around the metroplex, spearheaded by our
Health Fair Director, Dianne Blankenstein. Literally thousands of women have been reached by these health fairs!
Educational Presentations of the "Ovarian Health - What Everyone Should KNow" presentation have been
made throughout the metroplex to groups of all kinds of sizes. Information about how to have this presented to your organization or group can be found
on the Educational Presentation Page of our website.
BillBoards have been used in the past around the Dallas area during the month of September. There were four
rotating messages and the estimated cars
which would pass these during the days they were posted came to more than 2 million!
What wonderful awareness!
