WALK TO BREAK THE SILENCE
ON OVARIAN CANCER
5K FUN RUN/WALK
(Formerly known as the WALK FOR THE WHISPER)

September 27th, 2008
Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine

We are proud to announce a nationwide campaign in 2008 with a new name for the annual Walk - It will now be known as the NOCC and PureOlogy Walk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer!

The 8th annual Walk will take place on Saturday, September 27th in Grapevine, Texas, starting from Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine, at 1650 W. College Road. This Walk/Run will coincide with the Texas Legislature's resolutions declaring September as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in Texas. Why not bring your family and join us in raising awareness in your home region? You can really make a difference in ovarian cancer awareness in the DFW metroplex!

RACE DAY SPECIAL EVENTS:

Very special events are being planned for this year's Walk. There will be events for children as well as adults and a display of numerous quilts, Teal Ribbon items available, and lots more!

Drawings will be held for prizes and gift certificates - from area merchants. Each ovarian cancer survivor who participates will be given a special NOCC Teal hat.

BROCHURES/REGISTRATION FORMS:

Race brochures/registration forms will be mailed out in July of 2008. You can also obtain them by:

  1. Calling 817-359-9072 with your name, mailing address, and telephone number, or
  2. Sending an email to nocc_dfw@hotmail.com

FLYERS TO DOWNLOAD AND PRINT:

You can download a flyer to print if you have a color printer. You can post this flyer at work or clubs, etc (with permission, of course) to help promote the Walk. You can download the Walk Flyer in Adobe Acrobat form by clicking here: Walk Flyer.

TEAMS

As with every year we expect to have a large number of Teams signed up. If you are interested in forming a Team, individually or through your employer as a corporate sponsored Team, please visit our Teams Page for more information on forming a Team.

You may register Teams of 10 or more individuals. Team registrants will have a discounted race entry fee. Please note Team registrations must be sent as one packet with all the registration forms (one per participant) and all fees included in the packet. A trophy will be awarded to the Team with the largest number of participants!

Talk to your employer - many companies assist in putting together Teams. This is a great way to help spread awareness about ovarian cancer!

REGISTRATION FEES:

Entry fees and dates for this year's Walk are as follows:

PACKET PICK-UP:

Packet pickup is available on the morning of the Walk. However, if you would like to get your packet early (which we recommend so you have your t-shirt to wear), you can pick up your packet at the following times/locations.

  • Thursday, Sept 25th from 11:00am to 7:00pm at the Outpatient Lobby of Baylor Regional Medical Center in Grapevine
  • Friday, Sept 26th from 11:00am to 7:00pm at the Outpatient Lobby of Baylor Regional Medical Center in Grapevine

Team packets can also be picked up at those times/locations but will only be available as a complete team, not individually so if you sign up with a team please ask your Team Captain where the packet will be available for your individual Team.




RACE ROUTE:

We will be having both a 5K and a 1 Mile event again this year. At this time the course is pending USATF Certification (which was received last year so we expect to receive it again this year). The 5K race route this year will be (subject to change):






RACE AWARDS:

For those who wish to be timed and eligible for awards, we are utilizing Chip Timing again this year. In order to be eligible and timed you must wear a small chip on your shoe that you will pick up on Saturday before the race at a designated Chip Timing Booth or at packet pickup.
