The 9th Annual Walk was held on September 26th, 2009
at Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine
We were proud to have yet another record-breaking year with our 9th annual Walk!
The 9th annual Walk took place, as always, in Grapevine, Texas,
starting from Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine, at 1650 W. College Road. The Walk/Run
coincided with the Texas Legislature's resolutions declaring September as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in Texas.
Although final figures are still being tallied from registrations on the day of the event, we already know
there was a record in total participants, number of teams, and donations! All who were involved truly
helped make a difference in ovarian cancer awareness in the DFW metroplex!

PHOTOGRAPHS:
We had a wonderful professional photographer at the website helping us out - Colin McCall from
McCall Photography. You can see all his photos on his website. They can be found under "featured galleries" at his website at
www.mccall-photography.com.
Thank you, Colin, for doing this for us!
SPONSORS:
A very big thank you to our sponsors, without whom we could not do this.
A particularly big thank you
goes out to Fun Factory Events for providing the tents, tables, banners, signs, start/finish line, etc - as always
they outdid themselves and helped make this a truly spectacular event site! And they also had one of the large teams there!
And a big thank you to Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine for once again allowing us to use
their facility as our event location and providing us such
tremendous support throughout the event. They provided storage areas, security, muffins, water - and had a team there!
Of course, a very big thank you goes out to WFAA-TV8! They provided us PSAs that were played on Channel 8, during great time
slots, throughout September. This not only was great for our event but more importantly this was a huge, huge awareness
opportunity. Think of how many people saw those! We really appreciate Anita Bass and Stephanie Wilcox for helping pull
this together for us at WFAA, and a very big thank you to WFAA!

VOLUNTEERS:
Of course, this event would not be possible without all the individuals who helped put it
together and on the actual day of the event. It is impossible to name everyone, but some particular
ones must be recognized for all the work they put into this!
Our Walk Director this year was, for the second year, Johnna McClure. Johnna not only brings
professional experience, tremendous organization, and dedication to her role but is also
a survivor herself so she brings a level of passion to the cause that is unmatched. She
deserves a huge thanks from everyone for all that she did!
Our Chapter Coordinator, Allison Osburn, put in many, many hours over the last year and particularly
during the last couple of months. We would be lost without Allison!
The Team Leader, Jennifer Williams, not only put together all the teams, which is a huge chore
by itself, but also took that team component to a new level this year with a huge increase in the number
of teams. And while doing all of that she also assisted her mother, Johnna, on all aspects of the event!
Thanks to Runnin' On Faith for not only providing us our Emcees but also for doing a
wonderful job during the Survivor Recognition, as usual!
Ni Guttenfelder and Natalie Raelthorn worked diligently soliciting the donations for the door prizes - thanks to both of them for a great job!
Lorri Hill was new to us and did a fantastic job pulling in volunteers for the day of the event!
Thanks to both the YMSL (Young Men's Service League) and the NCL (National Charities League) for
providing so many of our event volunteers on the day of the event!
Thanks to our sound system operator, A-1 Lighting & Sound and Buddy!
Thanks to all the family and friends who worked so hard, showing up at 5:30am and staying late to clean up. We
cannot say enough how much we appreciate all our volunteers!!
For all the volunteers involved - THANK YOU!!!
DONATIONS ONLINE:
Although the Walk is over you can continue to make donations either by mail or online:
You can make a general donation online by going to our online website at Kintera. The site is

On this page you can just click on the teal General Donation button to make a donation, or
use the links in the navigation bar on the left side.
TEAM AWARDS:
This year congratulations for both the Largest Team Award and the Largest Team Donation Award
goes to the same team - Kathy's Crew! They did a tremendous job in loving memory of Kathy Schellenger.
Other teams also did a tremendous job in bringing in donations and large groups - even after the award
deadline they all continued to work at helping to make a difference. Some of the standout groups were
The Knockouts, Second Chance, and Donna's Spirit Warriors.
All the teams did a wonderful job of helping to make a difference. By creating teams and recruiting
friends and co-workers who might not otherwise have known about the event, each team helped to spread
the awareness out further!
